No More Toy Making — Just Real Robotics!


A few days ago, I had the opportunity to visit a reputed school in Dubai. During our conversation, the academic coordinator proudly mentioned:

“We already use LEGO Robotics!”

(Said with a spark in the eyes and a confident smile.)

I genuinely appreciated their initiative and responded with a warm nod:

“That’s great… but may I offer another perspective?”

What started as a casual 5-minute chat over coffee turned into a deep 3-hour discussion that reshaped their understanding of robotics education.

I shared a few hard truths many schools overlook when relying solely on LEGO-based kits:

  1. Creativity stays boxed — confined to what the kit offers
  2. Real tech is hidden — electronics and actual coding remain out of reach
  3. Innovation is restricted — closed systems block experimentation
  4. No ownership, no IP — students can’t file patents or build unique solutions
  5. It becomes play, not purpose — more of a toy than a transformational tool
